If you want to see the real side of Florida then this is as close as you’ll get to it and it provides a refreshing change if you fancy a day away from the roller coasters and movie theme parks.

The Biscayne National Park is an outstanding place to visit, located within a stone’s throw of Miami. This park gives you a unique insight into the world of coral reefs and colourful fish. But perhaps the most famous example of nature in Florida is the Everglades. These have been made famous by many movies and television programmes, but seeing them in reality is far better than anything you have seen on your television screen.

The area is subtropical, which alone makes it unique to this part of America. It’s famous for its crocodiles which you may well see during your visit but there is plenty more to enjoy here too, including fishing and bird watching. There are several ways to see the Everglades and you can even go camping there if you really want to get close to nature.

The De Soto National Memorial Park is another one worth visiting purely for the stunning nature trails that take you right into the heart of the Floridian wildlife. You can also take part in fishing and bird watching among other activities.

Flights to Florida are easy to book and, if you work out where you want to visit before you book your accommodation, you can make sure you are staying close to many of the best sights that Florida has to offer. This will save you plenty of time on travelling from place to place.

Wherever you end up staying you won’t be too far away from at least one National Park. That’s the beauty of Florida it has more surprises to offer than you might think.
